This is pretty cool. It's based on a method known as Frame Differencing. As a video feed is being displayed the previous frame is also stored. The application compares the current frame to the previous frame to perceive motion. That motion is then plotted to the screen in the form of polygons and gradient spheres.
The sites and the content are great for inspiration, but that's not why I'm sharing. What's also interesting is the social functionality.
Instead of a "Like" button, the sites use their own form of social currency - appreciation. It's a cool move considering how the word "like" has become nearly meaningless (albeit ubiquitous) due to it's proliferation across the web. To appreciate something seems more meaningful, and closer to the art world.
I love when people post free awesome. These vector-based icons are great for design comps and presentations that show multi-touch interfaces.
Free for download. It's pretty sweet.
“Many people think that technology is a problem in that it dehumanizes people. And, instead, I think it’s a great thing because it humanizes objects.”
