When I was a kid, I used to love SpyTech. I had all the gizmos and gadgets there were, and probably drove my family bonkers by playing spy – dusting lamps for finger prints, listening in on conversations and generally, well, spying. These days, kids have a whole new set of toys to play with...a seemingly endless supply of gadgets that do what ours did but to the 10th power. Here are some of my favorite SpyTech gadgets and their iPhone (3.0) equivalents. I love technology.

    Mixtape

Over the weekend, a friend made me a mix tape (well, it was actually a CD, but who cares). On it is a beautiful arrangement of amazing rock and roll spanning nearly three decades.

From its beginnings, rock and roll has been associated with youth and rebellious expression. Rockers stood for an inspirational, unique and creative lifestyle. However, as of late, luxury played that role. Money and wealth gave way to a lifestyle that people aspired to. The glitterati took over and represented the class of aspirational social icons of the day. They appeared to live a life like that of rockers past, but without ‘real’ substance.

There is an environment brewing that demands originality and substance. From politics to business, from media to brands, people are craving something honest. In today’s world of ubiquitous luxury, true luxury is not about rarity or high cost, it’s about having an independent spirit and being good to yourself and those you care about. Given the global economic climate, honesty, integrity and true inspiration are set to become a critical factors of brands’ success...how are they A) earning my trust, B) contributing to my overall happiness and C) can they inspire me?

In my view, aspiration is about replication. Aspiration illicits emulation. Whereas inspiration is about originality. Inspiration illicits creation.

When I was a kid, I loved (LOVED) this story. One of imagination, adventure and ultimately compassion. The book tells the story of Max, who one evening plays around his home, "making mischief" in a wolf costume by chasing the dog with a fork and growling at his mom. As punishment, his mother sends him to bed without supper. In his room, a mysterious, wild forest grows out of his imagination, and Max journeys to the land of the Wild Things...where he's made king.

But in the story, Max finds himself lonely and homesick, and he returns home to his bedroom, where he finds his supper waiting for him, still hot. At the end of the day, Max accepts his place in the real world.

The moral? Be happy. Be grateful. Be nice to people. Be compassionate. And try to put things in perspective.
